The father of the murdered Sara Sharif and his partner appeared in public for the first time since the girl’s death. In the recording shared by the BBC, the couple assures that they want to cooperate with the British police. Sara’s mother in a conversation with a journalist Attention! TVN admitted that she “didn’t recognize” her daughter when she saw her in the mortuary due to her significant body injuries.

10-year-old Sara Sharif was found dead at her home in Woking, Surrey, UK on August 10. British police are looking for her father, 41-year-old Urfan Sharif, his partner, 29-year-old Beinash Batool, and his brother, 28-year-old Faisal Malik, in connection with the case. The three of them left for Pakistan August 9.

On Wednesday, the BBC published a recording in which Sharif and Batool spoke publicly for the first time since the girl’s body was found. The station emphasizes that the recording is of low quality and it is not known where, when or under what circumstances it was recorded. Only a woman speaks on it, and she reads her statement in English from a piece of paper in her notebook. “There are a few things I would like to say. First, I would like to talk about Sara. Sara’s death was an accident,” Batool said. The BBC notes that most of the recording is devoted not to the girl, but to the alleged intimidation of the couple’s family by the police in Pakistan, detaining them and invading their homes. “Our entire family in Pakistan is deeply affected by what is happening. They are intimidated,” Batool said. “Our main concern is that the Pakistani police will torture or kill us. That’s why we decided to hide,” she emphasized. “We want to cooperate with the British authorities and defend ourselves in court,” she concluded.

In response, Mehmood Bajwa, the police chief in the city of Jhelam, where the couple’s relatives live, told the BBC that the allegations of intimidation and torture were false, and if the family had any concerns, they should file a court application for protection.

“It wasn’t Sarah.” The girl’s mother and grandmother spoke to Uwaga! TVN

The BBC reminds that the girl’s autopsy showed that she suffered “many extensive injuries” that lasted for a long time. Investigators assessed that the girl’s cause of death was most likely “unnatural.”

Sara’s mother, Polish woman Olga Sharif, and her grandmother talked about the child’s death with the program Attention! TVN. They both confessed that when they saw the girl in the mortuary, they almost didn’t recognize her because of the condition of the body. – They gave her Mickey Mouse pajamas and she was covered with a baby blanket, but no mother should see something like that – said Mrs. Olga. – Her cheek was swollen and there were bruises on the other side. To this day, when I close my eyes, I can see what my child looked like, she added.

– It wasn’t Sarah. Completely changed, bruised – emphasized grandmother Sylwia Kurz – If someone hadn’t told me it was Sara, I wouldn’t have believed it. She has her whole life ahead of her, I can’t understand it, she added.

Sara lived in the house with her father, his partner, uncle and five siblings. After Olga Sharif and Urfan Sharif separated in 2015, the girl lived with her mother and older brother (now 13 years old). However, in 2019, the court ruled that she should live with her father. In an interview with Uwaga! Sharif admitted that she was initially able to see her children regularly, but over time it became increasingly difficult. Batool was allegedly against her visits, arguing that the children allegedly did not want to see her.

The full report on the case will appear on Wednesday in the program Attention! on TVN at 19:55.
