The vomit from 66 million years ago was found in Denmark. The unusual fossil comes from the time when dinosaurs ruled on earth, but they did not leave this trail behind.

The fossil was found on the cliffs of Stevns Klint in Zealand, the largest island of Denmark. Their white rocks come partly from the chalk period and partly from the tertiary, which causes them to hide traces of prehistoric organisms from hundreds of thousands of years. This specific fossil was characterized by an unusual shape – her explorer Peter Bennick has never seen something similar.

The facility went to the Eastern Museum of Zealand, where its dating was carried out. As it turned out, the fossil came from the end of the chalk period, 66 million years ago – dinosaurs prevailed on Earth. Unusual fragments of fossilized matter turned out to be crushed pieces of sea creature, a lily, which was chewed and partially vomited by other underwater animal, most likely fish.

“Whoever ate someone”

As Jesper Milan from the Eastern Zealand Museum explained, fossil is a valuable insight into the relations in the prehistoric food chain. Many animals eaten lily at the time. Due to the settled lifestyle, Liliowce seemed to be easy to prey, but the animals had problems digging their skeletons. That is why after eating they happened to vomit, which allowed to get rid of hard fragments from the body.
