On the very first day of the trial, the 20-year-old pleaded guilty to causing an explosion in stores in Aalsmeer, Beverwijk and Tilburg. He did not want to reveal who his principals were. He only admitted that he had done it for the money, but never received it.

An internal police investigation of De Telegraaf found that an anti-personnel mine was used to attack a supermarket in Beverwijk. “We are amazed that this type of weapon is being used by criminals,” ACP police union chairman Gerrit van de Kamp told the newspaper.

Attacks on Polish stores in the Netherlands

In December 2020 and early January 2021 it happened attacks on Polish supermarkets in Aalsmeer, Heeswijk-Dinther, Beverwijk and Tilburg. In addition, the cargoes exploded in Polish stores in Lelystad and Rotterdam.

One of the most recent attacks was in Panningen in the south of the Netherlands at the end of June. The shop on Pastoor Huijbenplein was attacked three times in a month.

The owners of the attacked supermarkets are mainly Iraqi Kurds, but the stores sell Polish products, and their customers are mainly Poles.

Earlier, the police reported that there were no indications that the crimes were ethnically motivated and directed against Poles. An officer in the press office of the police in The Hague said in the meantime that “the motives of this bullying campaign are unclear to us.”
