The appellate court in the Netherlands ruled that the collection of ancient Crimean items should be returned to the Ukrainian state.

The subject of the dispute between the Ukrainian authorities and four museums in the Crimea annexed by Russia is a collection of nearly two thousand Scythian, Greek and Roman exhibits. During the Russian annexation of Crimea in March 2014, the collection was presented by the Allard Pierson University Archaeological Museum in Amsterdam as part of the exhibition “Crimea: Gold and the Secrets of the Black Sea”.

After the exhibition was closed in August 2014, there was a problem to whom the Netherlands should return the exhibits, not only from Crimea, but also from the museum in Kiev.

The issue was dealt with by a Dutch court, which ruled in 2016 that only states can demand the return of cultural goods. Museums in Crimea appealed against this decision. Now the Dutch appeals court has once again found Kiev right.
