German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will meet on Thursday with US President Donald Trump in Washington, “said German government spokesman Stefan Kornelius on Saturday.
Key facts:
- Merz took the chancellor office on May 6. This will be his first meeting with Trump.

Friedrich Merz will go to the United States on Wednesday, and on Thursday he is to meet with Donald Trump And eat lunch with him in the White House. At the end of the meeting, a joint press conference is scheduled.
The DPA agency announced that Merz would stop at the Blair House guest house, which is located next to the White House.
The agency predicts that leaders will talk about a peaceful process, aimed at ending the war in Ukraine and cooperation under NATO. The agency added that Merz and Trump will probably also raise the topic of customs imposed by the United States to the European Union.

DPA also asked whether Merz and Trump will find a common language. Until now, during Trump's second term, Washington visited, among others president France Emmanuel Macron and the Prime Minister of Great Britain Keir Starmer, who – in the opinion of experts – managed to make good contact with the US president.
Minister of Foreign Affairs German Johann Wadephul previously visited the United States. Her goal was to read the US Secretary of State Marek Rubio and prepare the land for the Chancellor's visit.
