In April, the British company Mycofeast signed an agreement with Grupa Żywiec to purchase shares in Browar Leżajsk. As we wrote on Gazeta.plfour months later the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection accepted the transaction. Leżajsk Brewery stopped brewing beer. Mycofeast wants to start a different type of production in the plant.
The new owner of the Leżajsk Brewery is involved in the production of proteins and lipids
The mayor of the Leżajsk commune, Krzysztof Sobejko, spoke about the details of the changes planned by the British company. – I have information from several former brewery employees that they have received offers to return to work from September. Such a phone call was received by, among others, a warehouse employee or a person directly involved in brewing beer. I was asked for contacts to local companies that provide various services, from cleaning to accounting – said Krzysztof Sobejko, quoted by agropolska.pl According to the Polish Press Agency, the mayor of the Leżajsk commune estimated that Mycofeast could employ up to 100 people.
Mycofeast operates in the industrial biotechnology sector. The company uses the fermentation process to produce proteins and lipids, among other things. They are used in the production of food and animal feed. This is the type of activity that Mycofeast intends to conduct at the Leżajsk Brewery.

Krzysztof Sobejko stated that Mycofeast's launch of a new business in Leżajsk will create an opportunity for the development of the commune. At the same time, Sobejko emphasized that he does not want to abandon the Leżajsk tradition of brewing beer. – We are not giving up yet. There is a group of people who are thinking about resuming production in the brewery. The plant has machines and technological lines, so the process of reactivating the plant is possible. We will want to talk about this with the new owner. I hope that he will want to sit down at the table and talk about expanding the business – said Krzysztof Sobejko.
