The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) is helping children track Santa's journey for the second year in a row. On a special website you can check where his team is currently located.
The “NORAD Tracks Santa” campaign is in USA and Canada Christmas tradition. The North American Aerospace Defense Command provides children with a website where they can follow the route of Santa's sleigh. It is available from December 1, but the tracking option appears on December 24 (at 10 a.m. Polish time), when Santa Claus is scheduled to set off on his annual tour. The website itself is not everything. Special volunteers answer calls from children across the United States and Canada on Christmas Eve, informing them about Santa's plans. They reveal how many gifts he gave away and how many he still has left. Many of the people who received calls from the youngest included… sitting US presidents and first ladies.
All by mistake
The “NORAD Tracks Santa” campaign is the result of… a mistake. In 1955, an advertisement appeared in a local Colorado Springs newspaper with a number for children to call to talk about Santa Claus. However, the number provided was incorrect – it belonged to NORAD, which controls the airspace over the United States and Canada. Command officers joined in the fun, reporting to the calling children about the saint's progress on his journey. Currently, the campaign is widespread, it has its own social media account, YouTube channel, smartphone applications and a multilingual website. www.noradsanta.org.
