President Andrzej Duda sent a letter to the Speaker of the Sejm, Szymon Hołownia, regarding convening a meeting of the National Assembly in Gniezno in 2025 on the occasion of the millennium of the coronation of Bolesław the Brave.

In a letter to the Speaker of the Sejm Andrzej Duda he recalled that the coronation of Bolesław the Brave was “a symbolic and formal legal confirmation that our country had become a sovereign state, from then on respected as such by the centers of imperial and papal power and by other European monarchies.”

He pointed out that the prevailing opinion among historians is that this ceremony took place on Easter, April 18, 1025, in Gniezno, “the first city in terms of dignity and importance of the then Piast state.”

According to the president, this anniversary should be celebrated in a dignified way – just like the 1050th anniversary of the baptism of Poland, on the occasion of which a ceremonial meeting of both joint chambers of the Polish parliament was held on April 15, 2016 in Poznań. “I am convinced that the meeting of the National Assembly in Gniezno in 2025, convened on the occasion of the millennium of the coronation of Bolesław the Brave, will be an event appropriate to the importance of the anniversary being celebrated – a sign of attachment to the great traditions of Polish statehood and a symbol of uniting us, Poles, respect for the achievements of past generations of compatriots “- wrote Andrzej Duda.
