Due to unfavorable weather conditions, 105 participants of the scout camp in Szklarska Poręba (Lower Silesian Voivodship) were evacuated to a nearby school on Wednesday evening.
On Wednesday, after 7 p.m., Lower Silesian firefighters received information about unfavorable weather conditions at the site of the ongoing scout camp. The tents were pitched in the forest, which is why it was decided to preventively evacuate the participants – informed Krzysztof Zakrzewski, press officer of the PSP Commander in Jelenia Góra.
Evacuation of the camp
According to the duty officer of the municipal fire brigade in Jelenia Góra, the evacuation of 105 children from the scout camp consisted in safely bringing them to the nearby school number 1 in Szklarska Poręba. The camp was a kilometer away from this place.
– This decision was made due to the weather conditions – strong wind and rainfall and a meteorological warning – said the duty fireman. He added that firefighters secured the entire route, helped in taking things from the camp and tents, so that nothing would be blown away by the wind.
During the evacuation, three children had to be given medical attention due to the stress – one of the girls was taken to the hospital.
After 22.30 on Wednesday, the fire brigade activities ended and the units returned to the base.
