It’s the silvery cloud season. The phenomenon started last night and could be seen in many parts of the country. On Kontakt 24 we received photos from observations in Silesia and Pomerania.
On Saturday night, silver clouds appeared over Poland. The phenomenon was perfectly visible, among others, in Tychy (Śląskie Voivodeship) and Chojnice (Pomorskie Voivodeship).
How to observe silvery clouds
The silvery cloud season begins in late spring and continues in the summer. The phenomenon is mesospheric clouds that form around 80 kilometers above the planet’s surface. These are the highest clouds that we can observe from the surface of the Earth. They reflect sunlight and create a silvery glow.
How to observe silvery clouds? It is worth going to an open space. We should remember that there should be as little artificial light as possible – lamps, billboards or tall buildings, because each additional source of it may make it difficult for us to admire the silvery glow.
This season is much poorer
According to Karol Wójcicki, the author of the blog “With his head in the stars” and a popularizer of astronomy, solar activity increased significantly last year. This means that this year the phenomena are less frequent and appear in less spectacular forms.
