Mateusz Morawiecki in the second episode of his podcast referred to the situation at the Polish-Belarusian border. – This is a trial moment for the state and also for us as a community. Therefore, we will not take a step back. Each concession to Lukashenka is only an incentive for further provocations, said the head of government.
On Friday, the second episode of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki’s podcast was published on the Internet, in which the head of the government addressed, among other things, the protection of the borders of Poland and the European Union.
He stated that the situation in this area had been tense for weeks, and that Alyaksandr Lukashenko was playing with human life, he wanted to maintain power at all costs and destabilize the situation in Poland and Europe. – This highest price, the price of life was paid last week by three people. This week alone, there could be more victims of Lukashenka’s provocation. The Border Guard helped eight migrants whose Belarusian services pushed them straight into the Belarusian swamps, he said.
The chief commander at the conference on September 20 Border Guard, General Tomasz Praga said that the police in the border region with Belarus found the bodies of three migrants on the Polish side and one on the Belarusian side.
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki: we must be tough and decisive
The Prime Minister added that every day there are more and more attempts to illegally cross our border. – Every day our Border Guard intervenes several hundred times – he said. He also stated that in August the Polish services prevented over 3,500 attempts to illegally cross the border, and in September over 4,000.
– That is why we have to be firm and decisive. The state of emergency in the border zone facilitates such a procedure. It is a trial moment for you and also for us as a community. Therefore, we will not take a step back. Each concession to Lukashenka is only an incentive for further provocations – said Morawiecki.
He also assessed that these are matters requiring political consent, and “anyone who tries to play this situation according to his own calculations plays in a theater directed by Lukashenka and Putin”.
– We want this macabre performance not to come at the expense of the fate and lives of ordinary people – he said. The head of government added that “if we do not detain these several hundred migrants today, then tomorrow thousands will stand on the Polish border, and in a few weeks we will have to deal with the whole wave of tens of thousands of citizens from Iraq, Syria and Lebanon”.
A state of emergency at the Polish border with Belarus
A state of emergency has been in force since September 2 in the border zone with Belarus, i.e. in part of the Podlaskie and Lubelskie provinces. It covers 183 towns. It was introduced for 30 days under the ordinance of President Andrzej Duda, issued at the request of the Council of Ministers. Government officials justified the need to introduce a state of emergency with the situation on the border with Belarus, where Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s regime is waging a “hybrid war” and the Russian-Belarusian Zapad military exercises taking place in the first half of September.
There are a number of restrictions on civil rights in the area covered by the state of emergency, and the media, for example, are not allowed to work. All information from this area is communicated to the public by official agents.
On Thursday, the head of the Ministry of National Defense, Mariusz Błaszczak, said in the First Program of Polish Radio that the decision to extend the state of emergency has not yet been made, but the migratory pressure on the border has not stopped. The next three-day session of the Sejm is planned on 29 and 30 September and 1 October. The period of the state of emergency in the border zone with Belarus ends on October 1.
Prime Minister on the draft budget amendment
Mateusz Morawiecki also spoke about the one adopted by the government in the podcast draft amendment to this year’s budget. He argued that the financial and anti-crisis shields had fulfilled their purpose. – Were it not for these gigantic covers for Polish companies, today we would not be at the stage of making up for losses, but, one could say, of licking the wounds after the crisis, he said.
In his opinion, Polish companies, and with them the Polish economy, returned to the tracks of stable growth. – The favorable change in budget indicators is so serious that it was possible to amend the budget. The first one is going up, not down, said the Prime Minister.
On Tuesday, the government adopted a draft amendment to the budget for 2021. In the project, revenues were increased by approximately PLN 78 billion, expenses by approximately PLN 37 billion, and the deficit was reduced by approximately PLN 42 billion. As part of the changes in the budget, it is planned, inter alia, to increasing subsidies for local governments and additional funds for health protection in the amount of PLN 1 billion, incl. to increase the salaries of doctors and educate medics. Expenditure on security (Police, Border Guard and Fire Brigades) will be increased by PLN 2.2 billion, infrastructure (roads and railways) by PLN 10.1 billion, support for local governments by PLN 8 billion, agriculture by PLN 650 million, education and science by PLN 1 billion and PFRON by PLN 800 million.
Morawiecki about the Polish Lada and the fears of local governments
Prime Minister Morawiecki also referred to the concerns of local governments regarding the introduction of tax changes within the framework of Polish Deal. He argued that the government stretches out a helping hand to local governments and that this year local governments will be given “an additional PLN 12 billion, of which PLN 8 billion more for the implementation of own tasks, and PLN 4 billion for investments in water supply and sewage systems”.
– As I hear, local governments are satisfied. Perhaps, apart from strictly politically motivated votes, you probably do not hear any complaints from local governments, said the head of government.
Local government officials, however, are constantly sounding the alarm and appealing that the Polish Order not only beats them in their pockets, but also takes away their decision-making. See material on this topic on TVN24 GO >>>

The head of government also congratulated Polish volleyball players who won the bronze medal at the European Championships. He assured that the Polish government will always support the development of sport, which is why it is now at the stage of developing a “special program aimed at supporting teams playing in European competitions”.
Finally, he briefly referred to the recent convention of the Civic Platform. – For my political competitors, I have one piece of advice: credibility, fulfillment of election promises, this is what you need, said the Prime Minister
