The powerful storm swept on Wednesday through the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo. The strong wind accompanying the element has destroyed over 300 trees. Just a dozen or so hours earlier, the United Nations for meals and agriculture (UN FAO) awarded this metropolis a global prize as “a city of the most careing for stands and urban greenery.”
The storms, accompanied by heavy rainfall, hit Sao Paulo in Brazil on Wednesday. One person was killed as a result of the element, the Brazilian fire brigade said. The fatal victim was a taxi driver. A tree fell on his car, as reported by local media.
Even on Thursday morning, wind gusts reached a speed of 100 kilometers per hour. They damaged the electrical network, leaving nearly 200,000 houses without electricity. Offices and schools, as the city authorities warn, will probably remain closed by the end of the week.
Damaged trees
As a result of the storms, the famous parks in Sao Paulo suffered the most. At least 340 trees were destroyed, some literally ripped out of the roots, among them over a century -old specimens that damaged the electrical network in many places.
A strong wind knocked down the chichá to Largo to Armuche, which is the third oldest tree in this city, about 200 years old. As the local media write, it was a living witness to the city's history.
