According to BBC, the taxi driver was charged with the theft of luggage and cash. – An investigation was initiated in connection with a misunderstanding regarding payment for a taxi between Italy and France – said the prosecutor from Bonneville, Boris Duffau. The taxi driver was called to appear in the court in Bonneville on November 3, 2025. Meanwhile, “he was under court supervision, a ban on driving and must pay a deposit of two thousand euros (approx. PLN 8,400)”.

The taxi driver presented his version of the events

The driver in an interview with the BBC explained why he demanded additional money. According to him, Minister Lamma should pay more than the standard price of the journey, because he is the minister of the British government, which makes the journey more “risky”.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Community of Nations and Development (FCDO) informed the BBC that there were no confidential documents or laptops in the car, and Minister Lamma traveled on the basis of its own passport, not a diplomatic passport. FCDO spokesman said that “the price of the journey was fully paid” and strongly disagrees with the version of the events presented by the taxi driver. “The victims of this matter are the Minister of Foreign Affairs and his wife, and the driver was accused of theft,” he emphasized, adding that “because the legal trial is underway, further commenting would be inappropriate”.
