Microsoft, a week after the start of the new fiscal year, confirmed its intention to carry out further layoffs, informs CNBC. This is not the implementation of earlier announcements from January, when the reduction of 10,000 jobs was announced, but additional steps aimed at cutting costs.

For several months, giants from the technology industry have been implementing employment reduction plans. The cuts included, among other things LinkedIn, Alphabet (Google and YouTube), Meta (Facebook, Instagram), Microsoft and Amazon.

Microsoft announced the first layoffs in January this year and planned to lose 10,000 jobs as a result. people. However, it turned out that this was not enough and the company decided to further reduce jobs.

The number of people to be laid off has not been officially announced. However, GeekWire managed to determine that as part of the new round of job reduction, employees of the customer service, support and sales departments will lose their positions.

At the same time, a new notification appeared in the Washington State Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification system, which announced the reduction of 276 jobs – 210 at the company’s Redmond and Bellevue locations and 66 jobs remote work.

“Organizational and personnel adjustments are a necessary and permanent part of managing our company,” a Microsoft spokesperson said in a statement.

“We will continue to prioritize and invest in strategic growth areas for our future and in supporting our customers and partners,” he added.
