After three months of maintenance work, tourists visiting Rome can once again see the famous Trevi Fountain in its full splendor. However, a limit has been introduced for the number of people who can stay in front of it at the same time. It's an experiment for now.
The fountain was put into use during a ceremony attended by the mayor of the Eternal City, Roberto Gualtieri. On this occasion, it was announced that a limit on the presence of visitors would be introduced between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m., except Monday and Friday. Then it will be valid from 11 a.m., which is explained by the need to collect coins thrown in by tourists. They are donated to Caritas.
For now, as the mayor explained, there will be no entrance ticket, but he did not rule out that such a small fee will be required in the future. He added that the issue of whether the limit of 400 people will still be necessary will also be considered
Security officers and security officers will be on duty at the entrance to the fountain and at the exit.
Visitors can walk along the fountain, but are not allowed to sit on its restored rim, eat or drink, or smoke cigarettes.
