The National Radio and Television Broadcasting Authority has extended TVN24 its broadcasting license. Presidential advisor Paweł Mucha informed the Polish Radio that the President’s Office did not comment on the reconciliation for TVN24 or the interpretation of the provisions on broadcasters. He added, however, that he would analyze the resolution of the National Broadcasting Council on the principles of broadcasting radio and television programs.
The National Broadcasting Council has extended the license for TVN24. The station has been waiting for this for over a year and a half. The spokesman of the Council, Teresa Brykczyńska, remarked that before the vote, the Council unanimously adopted a resolution “on taking actions aimed at organizing the principles of broadcasting radio and television programs in Poland in the scope of the activities of entities from outside the European Economic Area”. As she said before the vote on the concession, “without this resolution, the National Council will not vote on the concession”.
Mucha: the law firm does not comment on the reconciliation procedure
24 Presidential adviser Paweł Mucha referred to the case on Polish Radio. – The Chancellery of the President does not comment on the procedure concerning the reconciliation, nor does it interpret the regulations – he said on Wednesday evening.
Mucha: the matter of the concession “completely independent thing”
He added that the resolution of the National Broadcasting Council requires an analysis. – On the one hand, we can see the decision to extend the concession, on the other hand, we have a certain interpretation: the position of the National Broadcasting Council took the form of a formal resolution interpreting the provisions in force regarding the situation of an entity in which we even indirectly have the dominance of an entity from outside the European Economic Area – he stated Housefly.
– The president is not directly a party or addressee, but of course we will analyze all the circumstances of this case – he announced.
He recalled that Andrzej Duda had expressed reservations about the amendment to the Broadcasting Act, known as “lex TVN”. – The president pointed out that when it comes to the content of this act as it was adopted, it raised doubts as regards issues related to the protection of property or due to the constitutional protection of freedom of speech – said the adviser.
– In my opinion, a completely independent thing is the issue of the concession, where we have information about its extension – he reserved.
The issue of the license for TVN24 and the anti-TVN act are two different issues that have been joined in time.
Mucha about the possibility of “future potential bills”
Referring to the question of the size of foreign entities’ shares in Polish media, Mucha noted that “the president said earlier that he did not question the repolonization of the media, he talked about market activities”.
Referring to “future potential bills”, Mucha announced that if, as a result of the KRRiT’s position, “any new works on changing the law or there would be any legislative initiative, it would be analyzed”.
