US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman said China is trying to present itself as a mediator that can end the war in Ukraine, but in fact it is increasingly committed to partnering with Russia and supporting this invasion. At the same time, she warned countries supporting Russia’s aggression.

– My assessment is that China are trying to both bolster their position in the international community by saying they will mediate and help end this horrific invasion, but at the same time they are committed to an “unlimited partnership” with Russia – said the deputy secretary of state USA Wendy Sherman, answering a question asked by the Polish Press Agency during a speech at the Brookings Institution think tank on China policy.

“We are certainly increasingly concerned about this partnership and China’s support for this invasion,” she added.

At the same time, she warned countries supporting Russia that their partnership with Russia would not pay off.

“What I would say to all those who support Russia: this will prove to be a stone around your neck,” Sherman warned. As she added, the war will end in a strategic defeat for Moscow and will create “many problems for those who support this monstrous invasion.”

Sherman on a possible Chinese invasion of Taiwan

Sherman also called on other countries to convince China that the invasion of Taiwan won’t be a good idea. She added that just like aggression on Ukrainean attack on Taiwan will have a global impact and it is in the interest of all countries to avoid it.

“We will continue to assist Taiwan and hope that China will not use a member of Congress to visit Taiwan as a pretext for military action,” Sherman said.
