At least two people died in floods following heavy rains in six provinces in central and southern Turkey. More than a thousand people were evacuated.
Heavy rains hit the provinces of Kirsehir, Kayseri, Sivas, Konya, Nevsehir and Kahramanmaras on Saturday, causing floods and mudslides in some places.
A 52-year-old resident of Uzun Ali village in Kirsehir province was killed when his body was found four kilometers from where he disappeared. The second victim was a man who died in Kayseri province when floods swept away the vehicle he was in. His body was found 10 kilometers away.
Services in several provinces evacuated more than a thousand people, the Anatolia Agency wrote on Sunday.
Roads blocked, cars damaged
In Sivas province, flooding blocked some roads, while in Nevsehir, fragments of rocks from “fairy chimneys” (characteristic rock formations in the Cappadocia region) fell onto the roads, damaging cars, Duvar reported. Numerous fields were destroyed.
Heavy rains also hit Turkey's capital, Ankara, leaving roads flooded and many drivers stranded.
