Flood in Germany: Soldiers rushed to help

As a result of intense storms in Kraju Saari i Rhineland-Palatinate in many places rivers burst their banks. Streets and basements in many towns were flooded. In Rhineland-Palatinate alone, over 1,000 soldiers were delegated to help in flooded areas. On Saturday, the Chancellor visited the flooded areas German Olaf Scholz.

After the storms passed, the situation has calmed down in many places and the cities are being cleaned up after the storms have passed. According to the German Ministry of the Interior, the situation is now under control and the water level is “falling almost everywhere.” However, the weather forecast for the next few days raises many concerns.

Forecasters warn: The downpours will return soon

Uwe Conradt reported on Monday on Facebookthat the water level on the Saar River has dropped to 5 meters (normal level is 1.9 m). He also added that the situation may deteriorate again in the near future.

The German weather service (DWD) in the area for Tuesday and Wednesday forecasts further heavy rains. According to DWD from the website France then there will be downpours, which may be accompanied by storms. Within 6-12 hours, 20 to 40 liters of water per square meter can fall there.. Locally, it may be up to 60 liters per square meter.

There is a fear that the soaked ground will not be able to absorb further masses of water, so flooding may occur again. The mayor of Saarbrücken advised city residents to stay away from flooded areas and not to enter forests because there is still a risk of landslides on wet slopes.
