Ewa Swoboda came ninth in the 100-meter sprint at the Olympic Games. Poland was a hundredth of a second short of making it to the grand finale, but her performance in Paris is hugely popular. The video of her saluting on the track has already amassed over 30 million viewsand “iShowSpeed” challenged her to a duel.
– No one in the world can beat me in a race – the popular YouTuber said during a live broadcast when he was asked about a possible rivalry with Ewa Swoboda. – If he comes to Poland and starts in the RMF FM contest, maybe I'll run with him. But he's already been to Poland, so the chances are slim – replied the Polish sprinter.
The whole world is writing about Ewa Swoboda and the “iShowSpeed” challenge
The whole situation is causing a sensation on the Polish internet, but foreign media are also writing about it. And from all corners of the world, actually. “Real hopes for surprise or lost male ego?” – writes the French “Le Parisien” about the situation, which allows itself to make subtle jokes about the YouTuber. Later, it points out that the Polish woman's personal best is 10.94 s, which is unattainable for “Speed”.
“Not enough to scare the capricious iShowSpeed,” we read further. “Swoboda responded without hesitation and proposed taking part in the competition in Poland. The young man has not reacted to this yet,” the French conclude.
“Swoboda is a two-time European Championship medalist. She has a personal best in the 100m of 10.94 seconds. Despite this, Speed proudly told his large audience during a recent livestream that he would have no problem beating her in a race,” writes the Daily Mail. The British report notes that Swoboda invited the creator to the race on August 24, and he has yet to respond.
“The Polish Olympic star is covered in tattoos, has her own Barbie and now she's going to do something special,” we read in the Dutch sportnieuws.nl. “The chance that she'll actually make it to the race is slim. The 27-year-old Swoboda is a hit on social media. She has over 700,000 followers on Instagram. The 100-meter sprint specialist stands out with her numerous tattoos and also has her own tattooed Barbie,” we read further.
The situation with Swoboda was also seen in Romania. “Her fame grew when she greeted her fans in a military manner. Now she says she can fight with iShowSpeed. The chances are slim, though,” we read on the Digisport portal.
It can be expected that Ewa Swoboda's rivalry with “iShowspeed” will not take place. However, thanks to her confession alone, the Polish woman gained considerable popularity abroad, and more Poles heard about the YouTuber.
