Snow cover is increasing in the Tatra Mountains. There is 13 centimeters of white snow on Kasprowy Wierch, and 10 centimeters in the Dolina Pięciu Stawów Polskich – the IMWM reported on Wednesday. Heavy snowfall is forecast here from Saturday, and the temperature on the peaks will drop to -10 degrees Celsius.
In the higher parts Tatra Mountains The conditions for tourism are very difficult – there is ice and it is very slippery. Snow lies at an altitude of 1,000-1,200 meters above sea level.
“In parts of the ridge, blown snow reaches above the knees. An additional difficulty is the low cloud ceiling and fog, which impede visibility and orientation in the area, which may lead to getting lost” – inform the Tatra National Park service in a press release.
Conditions in the Tatra Mountains
The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management reported that there is already 13 centimeters of snow on Kasprowy Wierch, and 10 cm in the Valley of Five Polish Ponds.
On the lower trails in the Tatra Mountains, there are trees fallen by the wind and gradually being removed. The days are getting shorter – in the Tatra Mountains it gets dark after 4 p.m., so you should plan your trip in such a way as to return from the trail before nightfall. It is worth packing a headlamp in your backpack.
