Iga Świątek finished the competition in WTA Finals at the group stage stage. Victories against Barbora Krejcikova and Daria Kasatkina turned out to be insufficient to advance to the semi-final. Thus, the individual season for the second-ranked player in the world ranking has come to an end, but this does not mean that we will not see her on the court this year. After a short break, Świątek was supposed to return to the game on Wednesday. She was waiting for her debut in… tournament final Billie Jean King Cup.

Together with Magdalena Fręch, Magda Linette, Maja Chwalińska and Katarzyna Kawa, the bronze medalist of the Olympic Games represents Poland in prestigious team competitions. Unfortunately, already on Tuesday it was assumed that the match would be 1/8 final against the Spanish will not take place. All because of terrible weather forecasts. “In Malaga, three thousand people have already been evacuated from the most endangered areas, and the local authorities announced that children will not go to school on Wednesday and the operation of all sports facilities will be suspended” – wrote Jakub Balcerski from Sport.pl.

On Wednesday, we received the official announcement from the International Tennis Federation (ITF). “Due to the severe weather alert issued by local and regional services, the first round match of the Billie Jean King Cup between Spain and Poland, previously scheduled for today, November 13 at 5:00 p.m., has been postponed” – transferred.

The weather situation in the Spanish city in the south of the country can be seen, for example, on the social media of Monika Piecha – a photographer who works on tennis tournaments of Polish representatives. On Wednesday noon, a short video from the beach appeared on her Instagram profile. In the material we can see our tennis players literally fighting against the gusting wind. Wrapped in jackets and hoods, the players went for a walk, but – as it turned out – it was not a good idea.

“A small change of plans. Stable for now, but keep your fingers crossed for Andalusia,” we read on Piecha's InstaStories. According to the new date, the Poland-Spain match in the Billie Jean King Cup finals is to take place on Friday, November 15 at 10:00. “This decision was made based on the comments of the relevant services to ensure the health and safety of all event participants. We apologize for any difficulties it may cause and we count on your understanding and cooperation,” the federation adds.
