ABW detained a former member of the Orlen board
Officers of the Internal Security Agency (ABW) at the behest of the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw detained on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, Michał R., a former member of the Management Board of Orlen SA, said that Michał R. was detained in the investigation regarding the exclusive of OTS GmbH and Orlen SA companies damage in the amount of approx. $ 378 million (equivalent to the amount of approx. PLN 1.5 billion) as a result of the conclusion in the period from August 21, 2023 to December 21, 2023. “three unfavorable contracts for the purchase of crude oil“.
Orlen scandal on oil
The Swiss company Orlen Trading Switzerland (OTS) was to bear the loss in connection with the purchase oilshe never received. The company made a copy in the amount of PLN 1.6 billion due to loss of advances. The scandal in this matter broke out at the beginning of 2024.
“Billion losses” by Orlen
Orlen informed that from April 2024 it was initiated 118 controls and auditswhich examine decisions taken in the company in 2016-2024. “It was revealed billion losses resulting from management errors ” – emphasized in the communiqué. Orlen explained that the effect of conducted inspections and audits are notifications to the prosecutor's officewhich “include the activities of the former board or senior managerial staff”.
