There will be no resignation of Minister Mariusz Błaszczak, said government spokesman Piotr Müller. The opposition demands the dismissal of the minister of national defence. It’s about the confusion surrounding the Russian missile that fell near Bydgoszcz in December. Minister Błaszczak claims that he was not immediately informed about the incident. He blames the Operational Commander of the Polish Armed Forces, General Tomasz Piotrowski, for this. Communications failed, according to a government spokesman. At the same time, President Andrzej Duda seems to defend the military.

On the second day of the Law and Justice convention, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Mariusz Błaszczak spoke about security. – “Si vis pacem, para bellum” – “If you want peace, prepare for war”. This is our signpost – emphasized Błaszczak.

The minister also talked a lot about a strong Polish army and the purchase of equipment. There was also pre-election campaigning. – If we receive a mandate to govern in the autumn, I guarantee that we will achieve this goal, the basic goal: a safe Poland – assured the politician.

However, there was no word in Mariusz Błaszczak’s speech about a Russian rocket that fell in mid-December in Zamość near Bydgoszcz. Her remains lay in the forest for over 4 months before they were discovered by a random person.

– This is a scandal, either Błaszczak, or the generals, or all of you must leave – says Bartosz Arłukowicz, PO MEP. – We are clear: Błaszczak is to blame, because he is the boss – says Krzysztof Gawkowski, MP of the New Left.

The opposition demands his resignation

The opposition demands his resignation, because Minister Mariusz Błaszczak claims that no one informed him about the incident right away, and blames it on Operational Commander of the Polish Armed Forces, General Tomasz Piotrowski. Government spokesman Piotr Müller estimates that “communication between the army and the transfer of information about the most important people in the country failed”. – This is a challenge that needs to be improved in the near future – he emphasizes.

– How many tons rocket flies over Bielsk Podlaski, Ostrołęka, Przasnysz, Ciechanów, Wyszków. It falls into the woods and stays there for five months, and you’re talking about a communication error? – answers the government spokesman Arłukowicz.

New Left MP Krzysztof Gawkowski, in turn, refers to the meeting of the National Security Council, which took place on February 24, and was attended by, among others, Minister Błaszczak and General Andrzejczak, chief of the General Staff of the Polish Army. – The chief of the general staff spoke about the incidents, the minister did not say anything that something was untrue – recalls the MP. Moreover, Gawkowski claims that during that meeting the participants did not learn about the Russian missile.

General Rajmund Andrzejczak, in turn, said a few days ago that he informed his superiors about the incident “when it took place”.

“Polish citizens lived in potential danger”

Questions surrounding the incident continue to multiply. – Was there any diplomatic or military NATO-Russia liaison at the time this happened? Has any information been obtained from Russia regarding this missile? asks Joanna Mucha, Member of Parliament for Poland 2050.

The object that was found around Bydgoszcz was most likely a Ch-55 cruise missile, which may be equipped with a nuclear warhead. – Polish citizens lived in the potential danger of some powerful explosion, and the state did nothing to clarify this matter – points out Michał Kamiński, deputy speaker of the Senate from the Polish Coalition.

The Ministry of National Defense consistently points to the errors of the operational commander, also in the report that was sent on Friday to the president and prime minister, who also – as they claim – did not know anything immediately after the incident. – The analysis of this report and the verification of the theses contained therein will also have to be carried out in a manner appropriate for these clauses, so it must take a while. However, no conclusions have been submitted – assures Paweł Szrot, head of the president’s office.

No resignation?

Without waiting for the results of the analysis, the president watched the Anakonda military exercise on Saturday, which was organized by the Operational Command of the Armed Forces. He saw General Piotrowski, which the opposition interprets as a clear signal. – You did it to show Błaszczak that you do not believe him for a penny – believes Bartosz Arłukowicz.

The signal that there will be no resignation of the general was sent by the president himself. – We draw conclusions from all events that take place. They are new to us. Poland and the Polish army have not seen such events on our territory and over our territory for many decades, said President Andrzej Duda.

The resignation of Minister Błaszczak is also not in sight. – There will be no such resignation – admitted government spokesman Piotr Müller, explaining that the Russians would applaud the idea of dismissing the minister of national defense. If there are no personnel decisions, there are questions about the quality of further cooperation between minister Mariusz Błaszczak and the army in a situation where there is a war going on beyond the Polish border.
