It snowed in the British Isles over the weekend. It turned white in the counties of Cumbria and North Yorkshire, among others, in England. The British weather service Met Office has issued weather warnings.

Road conditions are difficult in some areas of the UK. Snow has fallen and it’s slippery. Simon Williams, spokesman for the motoring organization RAC Breakdown, told The Independent that the northern part of the country could become a huge ice rink. Temperatures are forecast to drop below zero there.

– We expect very treacherous conditions in the northern parts of the country, so those who must drive should exercise extreme caution – he appealed.

There was frost in much of the country over the weekend. The coldest was in northern Scotland, where thermometers showed -12.5 degrees Celsius.

More than a thousand households in Cumbria, England, are left without electricity due to heavy snowfall. Over the weekend, some residents abandoned their cars on the roads. About 1-15 centimeters of snow fell there. County officials said nearly 40 schools will remain closed on Monday.

Yellow alerts

Meteorologists from the UK’s Met Office weather service have issued level one ice warnings for northern Scotland. There are also yellow alerts for rainfall in central and southern parts of the UK.

Experts said severe weather conditions could lead to local disruptions on some roads and railway lines, as well as extend travel times on roads, buses and trains.
