Robert Lewandowski has been scoring goal after goal for FC Barcelona since the beginning of the season. And he has already won several awards for the best player of the match, as well as the award for the best La Liga player in October. In this form, it must be taken into account in various plebiscites.

Prizes were awarded at FC Barcelona. What about Robert Lewandowski?

The Barca Players Awards were handed out on Tuesday, November 19 (although the results were announced only on Wednesday). These are awards given by the FC Barcelona Players' Association, which brings together former players of the club, for the “purest playing” football player.

“Since 2010, the association has been distinguishing players of the first team with this distinction who demonstrate the purest play on and off the pitch during the season. In this way, it is not so much the football quality that is valued but the human quality of the athlete, his relationships with fans, referees, opposing teams and in general environment. At the end of the season, the association members choose the winners with their votes,” we read on the club's official website.

This award did not go to Lewandowski. For the 2023/24 season, it was decided to honor someone else, namely Lamine Yamal (and for the women's team, for the fourth time in a row, Aitana Bonmati). “Despite his young age, he shows great composure on the pitch, stays away from controversy and has become a 'mirror' for thousands of young people around the world” – this is how this choice was justified.

It would certainly be more difficult for the 17-year-old to receive this distinction if it were not for his great performance on the pitch. Last season, his talent exploded and he quickly became one of the team's leaders (seven goals and nine assists). However, more was expected from Lewandowski, who had quite a disappointing season for himself and scored “only” 26 goals (plus nine assists).

This time, the Pole had to acknowledge the superiority of the Spaniard, but if he maintains his incredible effectiveness in the next matches, he may receive many valuable awards at the end of the season. Since the beginning of the season, he has scored 19 goals and made two assists in 17 matches.
