The police officers of the Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime conducted the “Barbossa” campaign aimed at perpetrators of sexual crimes. 49 people were detained. Among them is an employee of the district office in Warsaw.

Mariusz Ciarka, spokesman for the National Police Headquarters, said that combating the phenomenon of sexual abuse of children on the Internet is one of the tasks of the police officers of the Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime. – As part of the actions taken, officers closely cooperate with many institutions and organizations, with the common goal of reducing online sexual crime, as well as identifying and detecting the perpetrators of these crimes, in particular those involving defenseless children – Ciarka said.

49 people were detained

The policeman pointed out that last week the CBZC police officers carried out another large action against sex offenders. It was attended by 372 CBZC policemen from all field units, supported by colleagues from provincial police headquarters.

During the operation, officers detained 49 people, aged 19 to 70. They also searched almost 90 places, where they secured a total of over 720 digital media. After preliminary research, it turned out that they contained over 160 thousand. files depicting the sexual exploitation of minors. – The findings of the investigation show that the dissemination of materials took place through various channels, including closed groups using encrypted messengers – he said.

– The action was closely coordinated with the Cybercrime and Computerization Department of the National Prosecutor’s Office. The effects of the activities are also the result of good cooperation with Europol and the American non-profit organization National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).

21 people were arrested

Spokesman for the National Prosecutor’s Office, prosecutor Łukasz Łapczyński informed that the suspects heard allegations of possessing and disseminating pedophile content. – In 21 cases, at the request of prosecutors, the courts decided to apply preventive measures in the form of pre-trial detention – explained the prosecutor.

– Among those arrested are, among others: a man who sexually abused a child and a woman who shared sensitive photos of her child with her cohabitant. Four suspects in the past have already heard criminal charges of disseminating or possessing pedophile materials, the PK spokesman said.

According to the findings of the investigation, the man who sexually abused the child possessed and could produce material depicting the sexual abuse of this child.

Prosecutor Łukasz Łapczyński also added that more than PLN 641,000 was secured on the property of the suspects against future penalties. – Now the investigators are faced with a time-consuming and difficult process of examining secured media containing drastic materials with the participation of children. It will depend on the results of the work of computer forensics specialists to present further allegations to the suspects, added inspector Mariusz Ciarka.

Detained official

One of those detained as a result of the action is a 39-year-old resident of Warsaw, an employee of the district office in Praga Północ.

The man is suspected of possessing and distributing pornographic content involving minors. The 39-year-old pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. – At the request of the Praga-Południe District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw, which conducts the proceedings against the detainee, a temporary detention order was applied for a period of three months – said Katarzyna Skrzeczkowska, spokeswoman for the Warsaw-Praga District Prosecutor’s Office.
