For more than a year, the residents of the building in Stargard, where the wall broke, have not been able to return to their apartments, although they pay for them with loans. The building inspector decided to take the building out of use and ordered that the damage be repaired. The problem is that the renovation hasn’t started yet.

On May 12 last year in the morning in the Trzy Slonów housing estate at 8b Armii Krajowej Street in Stargard, a sudden collapse scared the residents. One of the walls began to tilt. As junior brigadier Paweł Różański, press officer of the Poviat Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Stargard, told us at that time, the services were called to the building around 8.36.

The damage to the structure turned out to be so serious that it was decided to evacuate all those staying in the building – a total of 19 people, including five children. Everyone had a few minutes to pack up. They lost a roof over their heads overnight.

We got information about the event and photos of the building on Contact 24.

They lost their livelihood

A construction supervision inspector also arrived at the site, who decided that the building, put into use only 8 years earlier, was not safe and ordered a technical expertise. This was drawn up on July 19, 2022 and showed that major repair work was required. To this day, however, they have not been implemented and a year after the evacuation, the residents hung a banner on the tenement house: “The first anniversary of incompetence”.

People feel left on their own. They emphasize that although they do not live in their premises, they have to pay loans for them. “I lost my life and health. I am paralyzed on the right side of my body as a result of stress – Elżbieta Szumska, a councilor of the Stargard district council and a resident of the building, told us.

– I pay the loan and rent another apartment. I expect the cost of the apartment to be reimbursed or restored to good condition, Radosław Witkowski, one of the residents, told us.

They have until the end of September

Some of the apartment owners we talked to want to return to their apartments, others demand their money back and do not want to return to the ill-fated building. However, everyone wants the repair work to be done as soon as possible.

The Poviat Building Supervision Inspector in Stargard informed us that the developer has a deadline for completion of repair works by September 30, 2023. As Bartosz Bartkowiak, a TVN24 Szczecin reporter, learned from the representatives of the developer, the works have not yet started, because they have not been able to receive the keys from all residents whose apartments will require repairs.
