A drug factory in a quiet village in Podlasie. Four Mexican citizens produced methamphetamine there. What the police found at the scene is worth over PLN 7 million.
Buildings that were supposed to be inconspicuous were turned into a drug production laboratory. Many a city could be intoxicated with them. The production was handled by four Mexicans. The villagers are shocked – an international cartel has spread its wings nearby.
– The trend in the global drug market is that we see a large expansion of drug cartels from Mexico, which produce methamphetamine all over the world. Laboratories of a similar type were recently liquidated, among others, in the Republic of South Africa, where Mexican citizens also produced methamphetamine – notes Sub-Inspector Michał Aleksandrowicz, head of the Department for Combating Organized Drug Crime of the Central Bureau of Investigation.
Drugs were produced in full swing in this idyllic setting. Mexicans ran an outlaw business – They came from the state of Sinaloa. At the moment, we are in the process of identifying the remaining members of the group, says an anonymous officer of the Central Bureau of Investigation.
The police have already broken up 47 similar factories across the country
The outskirts of the Podlasie village turned out to be a dream place.
– This does not surprise me at all, because a few years ago the Mexican drug cartel Las Zetas sent its couriers to look for suitable places in Europe – comments Andrzej Mroczek, a former policeman and crime expert from Collegium Civitas.
120 liters of liquid drug were seized – its value on the black market is over PLN 7 million.
Since the beginning of the year, the police have broken up 47 similar factories across the country. – Nearly 900 kilograms of drugs from the amphetamine and methamphetamine groups have already been seized – informs Deputy Commissioner Paweł Żukiewicz from the Central Police Investigation Bureau.
Substances produced in illegal factories can be deadly.
– We're going crazy, we're going crazy. We have no control over ourselves at all. We don't know exactly what we are taking and what this medicine contains. And that is why the effects we observe will be completely different than those we expected. Multi-ingredients, contamination – says Eryk Matuszewski, a toxicologist from the Franciszek Raszeja Municipal Hospital in Poznań, about drugs produced this way.
The Mexicans were arrested. They face up to 20 years in prison. – The prosecutor charged them with participating in and managing an organized criminal group – says Łukasz Janyst from the District Prosecutor's Office in Białystok.
