TIER, a company from Berlin, known for electric scooters, announced the acquisition of 100 percent of shares in Nextbike, a company specializing in bike rental, including Veturilo from Warsaw. In this way, it has become the largest supplier of micromobility in Europe.

As the Berlin company announced in a press release, thanks to the merger with Nextbike, the fleet of offered vehicles will increase to 250,000 in over 400 cities. The announcement stated that Nextbike has been running bicycle rental systems since 2004, mainly as an exclusive operator for cities, and in the 17 years of its existence it has established a profitable shared mobility business model. After the merger, the two companies will provide bikes, e-bikes, cargo bikes, e-scooters, e-mopeds and e-scooters on one platform. Shared vehicles will be available in stationary, stationary and hybrid systems.

– The acquisition of Nextbike – with its unparalleled experience and relationships in hundreds of cities – is a unique opportunity to take bikesharing to the next level, get more people out of cars and offer the most sustainable mobility solution, said Lawrence Leuschner, CEO and co-founder Tier Mobility. “I’ve always believed deeply in the transformative power of bicycles in cities – and it’s great to see the bicycle market grow fast,” he added.

Nextbike CEO Leonhard von Harrach, in turn, pointed out that the merger of both entities results, among others, from from a common mission. – We decided to cooperate with TIER because there is a significant common ground in the corporate culture. Above all, however, we are united in our mission to make cities friendlier with our mobility services, and to solve the problem of congestion, pollution and noise, he said.

Berlin-based TIER recently expanded its operations to 16 countries in Europe and the Middle East with market entries in Hungary, the Netherlands and Bahrain.

Bridging agreement with Nextbike

The Nextbike company is the operator of the Veturillo city bike in Warsaw. This month, the bridging agreement signed with her for a year was to end. But – as we reported on tvnwarszawa.pl – the temporary solution will be extended for next year. As part of the new one-year agreement with Nextbike, the number of bikes and stations financed by Warsaw has returned to the level of 2016. Based on the rental statistics, road workers also changed the locations of selected stations. In total, in 2021, the residents of Warsaw have exactly 4,560 bicycles at their disposal. Last year, 5,800 bikes were available, and the entire system included 398 stations in Warsaw (their number in the bridge system decreased by almost one hundred).

Nextbike has been operating on the Polish market since 2011, providing and running self-service city bike rentals. The company cooperates with local governments, creating and expanding bicycle systems in Poland. The Warsaw Veturilo system is considered to be one of the largest and most popular.
