From Tuesday, October 24, until the end of the month, road surface condition tests will be carried out on the A2 motorway between the Konotopa junction and the border with the Łódź Voivodeship.
During the week (Monday – Friday) they will be carried out mainly at night, from 10 p.m. to 6 p.m., and on Saturday and Sunday during the day from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., said Małgorzata Tarnowska, spokeswoman for the Warsaw branch of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways.
“Basis for assessing load capacity”
Tarnowska explained that such tests involve a car with a diagnostic device driving in the right lane, stopping every 50 meters for about 2 minutes and during this time testing the road surface. – The tests will be the basis for assessing the load-bearing capacity of the existing surface due to the planned addition of a third lane and replacement of the wearing course – she added.
She said that surface tests are part of the documentation being prepared related to the widening of 89 km of A2 between Warsaw and Łódź. – They will allow for assessing the condition of the surface after 10 years of use – she explained.
They will widen the highway
On August 30, an agreement was signed for design documentation for the widening of the A2 motorway between Łódź and Warsaw with additional lanes. The value of the investment will be almost PLN 25.5 million.
In addition to widening the route, engineers will present solutions aimed at making the route after modernization energy self-sufficient. All road-related installations (lighting, weather stations, etc.) are to be powered by renewable energy sources.
Road engineers declare that construction works will be carried out with traffic flowing. Two lanes will be available for each direction: towards Warsaw and Poznań.
The road workers plan to announce the tender for selecting the contractor for the A2 expansion in the spring of 2025 and sign the contract in the same year
