They won the election, but they won't rule. The Freedom Party of Austria (FPö) will remain in the opposition

Three parties of the broadly understood political center created a government coalition, thus not allowing power to the far -right Freedom of Austria. In the September election, FPö obtained the best result, winning 29 percent of votes. Her leader Herbert Kickl leads anti -European, pro -Russian and anti -Ukrainian narrative. That is why he was surrounded by the so -called sanitary cordon, fire dam.

The government will be created by Christian Democrats, Social Democrats and Liberals. – I am very happy and proud that I can stand with you today to present our joint program. Not only because our cooperation keeps Herbert Kickel and the extremist FPö away from the most important institutions of our country. Not only because this government will protect the rule of law and democracy in Austria – said Andreas Babler, chairman of the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPö) at the conference.

The Austrian daily Der Standard estimated that the new government means the fiasco of Herbert Kickl's plans, who “would like to create a forte chain in Central and Eastern Europe created by Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, maybe also the Czech Republic. It would play the role of an organization that guarantees Russia's influence on Europe.”

FPö is the Austrian equivalent of German AfD. Kickl, like Hitler once, is called a folk chancellor. From 2017 to 2019 he was the Minister of the Interior of Austria. The hallmark of his party is primarily a fight against immigrants. That is why the other parties took over some of the FPö passwords. Especially the Chadecka, Austrian People's Party.

– We will continue to fight illegal immigration, abuse of our asylum and extremism. So that our system is not overloaded, connecting families will be temporarily suspended with immediate effect – announced Christian Stocker, chairman of the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP).

Stocker said that coalition talks were the most difficult in the history of the country. The new government took, among others, a ban on wearing scarves by underage women straight from the extreme right program. The new, sharpened asylum law is to be implemented in harmony with European law, especially the European Convention of Human Rights.

This is criticized by the extreme right that tries to convince the Austrians that only she guarantees a real fight against illegal immigration. – These three parties have proved that they are absolutely not interested in stringent asylum and migration policy. This can also be seen in their programs. They have absolutely no credibility in this field – says Lisa Gubik from the Freedom Party of Austria (FPö).

The new government will be sworn in on Monday at the earliest. It is also uncertain whether the party liberal congress will agree to the entrance to the coalition. Consent would mean that Austria would be ruled by three parties for the first time in 75 years.
