The Sejm adopted an amendment to the act on emergency contraception, i.e. the so-called “morning-after pill”. The Parliament also rejected a motion of no confidence in Adam Bodnar. US President Joe Biden met the wife and daughter of Alexei Navalny. Legia Warszawa, in turn, said goodbye to European cups in disastrous style. Here are six things to know on February 23.

1. The Sejm adopted the act on the morning-after pill

The Sejm adopted an amendment to the act regarding emergency contraception, i.e. the so-called “morning after” pill. According to the regulations contained therein, it is to be available without a prescription for people over 15 years of age. 421 MPs voted. The vote was 224 in favor and 196 against. One person abstained.

They voted against rejecting the entire project on the morning-after pill on Thursday 88 PiS MPsincluding Jarosław Kaczyński. 2. The CBA submits a notification regarding the “Vienna affair”

The CBA notified investigators about the possibility of “exceeding powers in order to obtain material or personal benefits” and “certifying untruths”. The case concerns the departure of Bureau agents convicted in the land scandal to a brothel in Vienna.

In the official response, the Bureau does not specify who from the CBA or other public officials would commit these crimes.

The CBA emphasizes that the notification concerns “information disclosed on TVN24 in the Superwizjer TVN magazine by former CBA agent Tomasz Kaczmarek.” At the end of January, “agent Tomek” in the “Superwizjer” studio revealed that “the operating fund used by the CBA was also used criminally.”

3. Biden met with Navalny’s wife and daughter

During his visit to California, the president USA Joe Biden met with Yulia and Dasha Navalnaya, the wife and daughter of the late Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, “to express my deepest condolences,” the White House said.

The American leader expressed admiration for Navalny’s “extraordinary courage and his legacy in the fight against corruption and for a free and democratic Russia where the rule of law applies equally to all,” it added.

4. Adam Bodnar defended in the Sejm

The Sejm debated a motion for a vote of no confidence in the Minister of Justice, Adam Bodnar. The motion was submitted in January by PiS MPs, who wrote in their justification that the minister’s actions “constitute serious violations of the principles of the constitutional and legal order of the Republic of Poland.” On Wednesday evening, the Sejm Justice Committee issued a negative opinion on this motion human rights.

On Thursday’s vote in the plenary chamber, the Sejm rejected a motion to express a vote of no confidence in Justice Minister Adam Bodnar. 425 MPs voted. 191 votes were in favor of the motion, 234 were against it. No one abstained from voting.

5. Odysseus successfully landed on the moon
