Andrzej Kraśnicki, was the president of the Polish Olympic Committee and the Handball Association in Poland. On the night of January 10-11, the latter institution provided information about the death of a distinguished activist. He was 75 years old.

“Kraśnicki is also a former member of the Executive Committee of the Association of European Olympic Committees, one of the European representatives in the Executive Council of the World Association of National Olympic Committees, and a member of the Foundation Council of the World Anti-Doping Agency. For his achievements, he was awarded, among others, the Grand Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta” – added in the ZPRP statement.

Upon hearing the news of the death of a distinguished Polish figure sports people holding the most important positions in Polish and foreign sports reacted. “It is with great regret that I received the information about the death of Andrzej Kraśnicki – the long-time president Polish Olympic Committee and the Handball Association Poland. I express my sincere condolences to the family and loved ones,” said Sławomir Nitras, Minister of Sport and Tourism.

“It is with great sadness that we received the information about the death of Andrzej Kraśnicki, long-time President of the Polish Olympic Committee and recently Honorary President of the Polish Olympic Committee. He died on January 10, 2025 after a serious illness. Polish sport has suffered a great loss. […] The departure of President Andrzej Kraśnicki is a great loss for the world of sports. On behalf of the Polish Olympic Family, I express my sincere condolences and words of encouragement to the President's closest relatives, friends and associates. In these difficult moments, we join you in pain,” wrote Radosław Piesiewicz, Kraśnicki's successor as head of the Polish Olympic Committee.

Witold Bańka reacts to the death of Andrzej Kraśnicki

“A wonderful man, a friend… he loved people and sport… Andrzej, look at us from the heavenly arenas…” – we read in the entry of Witold Bańka, head of WADA. The organization he headed also reacted to the death of the Polish activist.

“We are deeply saddened by the news of the death of Mr. Andrzej Kraśnicki, Member of the Management Board of the WADA Foundation and long-time President of the Polish Olympic Committee. His extraordinary dedication and contribution to sport will always be remembered. Our thoughts are with his loved ones in this difficult time,” it was written.

“I am shocked by the news of the death of my great friend Andrzej Kraśnicki, president of the ZPRP in 2006-21 and president of the Polish Olympic Committee. A generous and unique man who was always a great friend, a true athlete and leader and a great support. Rest in peace” – this is how he said goodbye to the deceased Paco Blazquez Garcia, president of the Spanish handball federation.

“Andrzej Kraśnicki, a long-time president of the Polish Olympic Committee, has passed away. He was a good organizer, always willing to talk, a man who did a lot for Polish sport! Mr. Andrzej will be greatly missed,” Tomasz summed up Kowalczykjournalist of Radio One.

Andrzej Kraśnicki represented Poland in the youth handball teams and was a coach of this sport. He also worked as a ski instructor and lifeguard, and was the president of the Posnania Sports Club and the Polish Confederation of Sports.
