The Champions League in its new format provides fans with a lot of emotions. The first league phase of this competition in history is slowly coming to an end. The penultimate round 7 has just ended. In a week, the competing teams will have the last chance to advance – either directly to the 1/8 finals or to the 1/16. And what does the situation in the table look like at the moment?
Here is the table after the seventh round of the Champions League. Four teams already in the 1/8 finals
Liverpool remains the only team with full points. Football players Arne Slota defeated Lille 2-1 on Tuesday and is in first place. Behind them, FC Barcelona is three points behind. Arsenal and Inter Milan have 16 points. Before the last round, the first four teams are already certain of advancing to the 1/8 finals, which goes to the eight best teams. The fight is therefore for the remaining four places.
And the competition will be very fierce. Bayer Leverkusen, currently eighth, has the same number of points (13) as 13th-placed Brest. Companies such as Borussia, Bayern, Juventus or Real, which are even lower and have 12 points each. Ultimately, the goal balance may decide about promotion.
Manchester City out of the Champions League knockout stage? Drama after the match against PSG
The fight for the 1/16 finals also promises to be interesting. Teams from places 9-24 will report there. Manchester City is not among them yet. The English champions faced PSG away. Before the match, both teams were separated by just a point in the table. City was 24th, and PSG – 25th. However, the Parisians turned out to be better. Even though they were already losing 0:2, they made up for the loss and won 4:2. Thanks to this, they advanced to 22nd place, and their rivals dropped to 25th. They are two points behind the promotion-leading 24th place.
We certainly won't see RB Leipzig in the knockout phase. Despite the first win and the first points in this edition (2:1 against Sporting), the team even lost its mathematical chances of advancing. Two teams still did not score a single point. It's about Slovan Bratislava and Young Boys Bern.
