Despite this, Barcelona remained in the lead in the La Liga table and it was known that they would not lose it this week. On Sunday, a direct clash between these teams took place at Civitas Metropolitano. The first half was very even. Neither team was able to build an advantage or dominate their rivals. However, there was no shortage of spectacular actions. The problem is that the ball didn't hit the net after any of them. Real had a little more initiative, but not enough to have an impact on the scoreboard.
The second part of the competition was also fierce. And finally the fans saw the goals. The first one was scored after a rather inconspicuous free kick. This irritated Atletico fans, who started throwing objects at the Real goalkeeper. Therefore, the referee decided to stop the match. The players returned to the field only after 20 minutes, when the emotions had subsided a bit. The hosts were looking for an opportunity to equalize and finally found it right at the end. Angel Correa scored in the fifth minute of added time.
A draw did not satisfy either team. They gained only one point from Barcelona. Real remained in second place, three points behind the leader, while Atletico strengthened its third position – five points behind the Catalans. Only Hansi Flick's players can be happy about such a situation.
