My heart breaks with fear when I read these terrible entries addressed to you – wrote the head of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity, Jurek Owsiak. He addressed his post to the president of Gdańsk, Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, against whom threats appeared on the Internet, referring, among other things, to the murder of the previous president of Gdańsk, Paweł Adamowicz, by a knifeman during the finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity six years ago.

On Thursday, the mayor of Gdańsk Aleksandra Dulkiewicz published an entry in which presented screenshots of threats addressed to her under one of the online posts. An Internet user wrote a comment under it: “I stabbed her at the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity. There must be a punishment.” In another comment, he added: “they can use an ax to tell me that thieves need to be punished (…)”.

Dulkiewicz referred to in her entry knife attack on Paweł Adamowicz, which took place on January 13, 2019 during the WOŚP city finale at Targ Węglowy in Gdańsk and asked “if the events of 6 years ago taught us anything.” The day after the attack, Adamowicz died in hospital. His killer was sentenced to life imprisonment last year.

“Today someone wishes me dead too. How much more needs to happen? Does another hate campaign have to end with someone's death for us to finally say 'enough'?” – asked the president. She noted that as a public figure she knows how to deal with hate, but it also affects her family.

Owsiak about “sick hatred” towards Dulkiewicz

On Saturday, the head of WOŚP, Jurek Owsiak, published an entry on Facebook, the content of which was addressed to Dulkiewicz. “We are gripped by fear and horror that such threats could come true. We are gripped by even greater fear and horror that such threats have already been able to come true,” he wrote.

Owsiak assured in the entry that he and his wife were able to come to Dulkiewicz at any time and “hug her and her daughter”, as well as ensure their safety. “Just say the word and we will be there for you,” he wrote.

The head of WOŚP pointed out that Dulkiewicz is one of many thousands, maybe even millions of people who participate in what the Foundation does of their own free will. “Because they want to. Because they have the pleasure and joy of participating in the entire project,” he noted.

“I would like to write to you, and perhaps to everyone else who may be offended by someone for this reason, that while I respect and even love you with all my strength for wanting to create the Orchestra, I should not expose you to even the slightest bad word, the slightest pain, the slightest insult. And especially you, Ola, who from the very beginning, when you became the Mayor of Gdańsk, have faced not only criticism that is understandable and is part of building a society. democratic, but with sick hatred,” he wrote.

At the end of the post, he added that “if the language of the media, such as that used by Telewizja Republika, spreads hatred, we not only do not understand it, but we also do not agree with it.”
