Three rescue operations in the Gulf of Gdańsk, a 46-year-old drowned

Although the holiday season has not yet started, the Maritime Search and Rescue Service has its hands full. On Friday, June 9, they participated in three rescue operations. Two life-saving operations had a happy ending, one ended tragically.

The notification informing the SAR water rescuers that a person was drowning in the open Baltic Sea was received around noon. The drowning man was supposed to be about 50 meters from the shoreline, near the village of Chłapowo (Wladyslawowo commune).

– Even before the arrival of the emergency services, people relaxing on the beach formed a chain of life. They managed to reach the drowning person and pull him ashore. The crew of the ambulance summoned to the scene decided that she was in good condition and there was no need for hospitalization, informed Capt. Krzysztof Minga, press officer of the KP PSP in Puck.

The next action, which the rescuers joined on the way back, unfortunately ended tragically. – Around 12:30 p.m., the duty officer of the Puck police was notified of the man’s drowning. The incident took place on an unguarded beach in Władysławowo. Tourists on the beach pulled a 46-year-old man out of the water, said Joanna Samula-Gregorczyk, the press officer of the Poviat Police Commander in Puck.

Despite immediate resuscitation, the man could not be saved. The police are investigating the circumstances of the incident.

5 people rescued in Stegna

Just before 3 p.m., the Maritime Search and Rescue Service in Stegna rescued a 38-year-old woman and her 12-year-old daughter who were drowning in the sea and three sunbathers who rushed to their aid.

According to SAR spokesman Rafał Goeck, the 38-year-old required hospitalization, her life is not in danger.
