The American Time magazine has published a list of the 100 most influential people of 2021. It included, among others Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle. The Sussexs appear on one of the six versions of the cover of the newspaper. Among the distinguished are also, among others former US president Donald Trump and Taliban leader Abdul Ghani Baradar. The list also included a Polish professor, Lidia Morawska.
Time, as every year for over two decades, has published a list of the 100 most influential people in the world. There were 54 women on it. The list is broken down into six categories: Icons, Pioneers, Titans, Artists, Leaders, and Innovators. Among the honored people there are people from the world of culture, science, politics and sport.
This year, prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle headed the first of these categories. An interview with the couple by Oprah Winfrey in March of this year was widely commented on, as was their decision to resign from official duties as members of the British Royal Family. Harry and Meghan explained that they want more space and want to focus on charity.
“In a world where everyone has an opinion about people they do not know, the Duke and Duchess have compassion for people they do not know. They not only give opinions. They run to fight” – wrote Jose Andres, the famous chef and friend of the couple.
Singer Billie Eilish became the face of the “pioneers” category. “He is a unique soul, with his own uncompromising voice, style and attitude. (…) He is a rare spirit that speaks straight from the heart, without pretending” – we read in “Time”. Grammy winner Megan Thee Stallion writes of the young singer as “a woman who stands up for herself and for women around the world.”
At the head of the “titans” category this year was Simone Arianne Biles, an American gymnast, four-time Olympic gold medalist, winner of an Olympic bronze medal and multiple world champion. American actress Kate Winslet was featured on the cover of the distinguished artists.
The leaders of the 2021 leaders list are Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, a Nigerian economist and the first African woman to head the World Trade Organization. The face of the “innovators” category was Jen-Hsun Huang – co-founder and president of Nvidia Corporation.
The famous TIME 100 list also includes such figures as: tennis player Naomi Osaka, singer Britney Spears, SpaceX founder Elon Musk, Apple president Tim Cook, Russian oppositionist Alexei Navalny, US president Joe Biden, his predecessor Donald Trump, Chinese leader Xi Jinping, Indian Prime Minister Narenda Modi and co-founder and one of the most important Taliban leaders Abdul Ghani Baradar.
The list also includes a Polish professor, Lidia Morawska, who heads the International Air Quality and Health Laboratory (LAQH), is also a member of the Australian Academy of Sciences and an advisor to the World Health Organization.
