Time magazine has published its annual list of the 100 Most Influential People. There were 54 women on it. Among them, Prof. Lidia Morawska. Who is one of the most influential women researchers in the world?

Lidia Morawska in 1982, she defended her doctoral dissertation at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow in the field of research on radon and its derivatives. Before she joined the group of researchers at Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane in 1991, in 1987-91 she conducted research at the Canadian McMaster University. She also stayed at the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna and at the University of Toronto.

In Brisbane, she established the Air Quality and Health Laboratory (LAQH), which she heads. She is also co-head of the Australian-Chinese Air Quality Research and Management Center and sits on the board of the Global Center for Air Research (GCARE).

Prof. Lidia Morawska has been a collaborator and adviser to the World Health Organization (WHO) for many years and has been co-creating WHO recommendations related to air quality for over two decades.

She used her interest in the impact of air quality on human health in an interdisciplinary research group established in 2020, which developed the significance of the transmission of particles containing the SARS-CoV-2 virus in the air and the risk it poses to health. Morawska chaired a group of 239 scientists and scientists from around the world. Based on the results of the work of this group, WHO has updated its recommendations in connection with the fight against SARS-CoV-2.

The 69-year-old Polish-Australian scientist has been awarded many times for her research achievements. He has won awards such as the David Sincalir award granted by the American Association for Aerosol Research or the Eureka Prize for research into infectious diseases.

From May 2020, he is a member of the Australian Academy of Sciences. The Sydney Morning Herald recognized her as one of the best researchers in health and science.
