On board the Titan, 48-year-old businessman Shahzada Dawood and his 19-year-old son Suleman. They are British and at the same time members of one of Pakistan’s richest families.

A rescue operation is underway near the world’s most famous wreck – the Titanic. This is where the members of the expedition organized by OceanGate went on Sunday. After a few hours after immersion, contact with the boat crew was lost and the submarine did not surface at the scheduled time, a rescue operation was launched. It’s a race against time – Titan had a supply of oxygen, which should last until Thursday. John Mauger of the US Coast Guard, who is leading the search, told CBS television that it was an “incredibly complex” operation. Sonars detected the sound source on Tuesday night and it remains the “target” of the rescue operation. Mauger assures that it will continue “as long as there is a chance of survival” of the passengers.

On board the missing boat is the owner of a company that organizes expeditions – Stockton Rushand also a billionaire explorer and Guinness record holder Hamish Harding and French sailor and diver Paul-Henry Nargeolet. The family confirmed that 48-year-old businessman Shahzada Dawood and his 19-year-old son Suleman also entered the Titan.

Who is Shahzada Dawood, a businessman aboard a missing submarine

According to the BBC, Shahzada Dawood studied at England and USA. Currently, he is the vice-president of Engro Corporation from Karachi, a giant in the fertilizer industry, also dealing with e.g. vehicle production and digital technologies. He cooperates with the family Dawood Foundation. According to the website of the World Economic Forum, he has served on the boards of many companies in various industries.

The media inform about his connections with the British court. According to the BBC, he works with the Prince’s Trust International and the British Asian Trust, organizations funded by King Charles III. The British broadcaster said a Buckingham Palace spokesman said the king wanted to be kept fully informed of the Titan’s rescue and was “thoughts and prayers with everyone on board”.

Dawood is also associated with the SETI Institute – a Californian research organization. According to the media, he is interested in wildlife photography and gardening. He is a big fan of science fiction literature, plays volleyball and is very fond of Rubik’s cube.

In addition to 19-year-old Suleman, now a student with whom he went on an undersea expedition, he and his wife Christine have a daughter, Alina, reports the New York Times.
