Tobacco for over a million zlotys. Accusations against a resident of Sztum

Police officers from Sztum (Pomeranian Voivodeship) seized illegal tobacco slices and cigarettes worth over one million zlotys. A 30-year-old man was also arrested. He faces prison and a heavy fine.

As staff assistant Karolina Kosmowska from the Poviat Police Headquarters in Sztum tells us, recently criminals from the local police station received information that one of the city’s residents may illegally produce cigarettes on his property. They entered the area on Friday.

– In one of the garages, they found and secured 75 bags containing about 2 tons of tobacco cuts and 34 cartons with 114,000 cigarettes without Polish excise stamps. The losses of the State Treasury from the secured amount of illegal goods amounted to almost PLN 1.3 million, Kosmowska tells us.

Officers also detained a 30-year-old man who was allegedly involved in the illegal manufacture of cigarettes. – He heard the accusation of possessing and marketing tobacco products without paying the excise tax due – informed Kosmowska. The man is punishable by 3 years in prison and a heavy fine.
