Iga Baumgart-Witan, Olympic champion in the mixed relay race and runner-up in the women’s relay race, told TVN24 after returning to Poland that “she is overjoyed, because she did not expect that she could ever have an Olympic medal at all, and she would bring two”. “It is a nice burden,” she admitted.

Polish Olympians returned to the country on Sunday afternoon. Their families and fans greeted them in large numbers at the Chopin airport in Warsaw. Iga Baumgart-Witan, Olympic champion in the mixed 4 × 400 meters relay and Olympic vice-champion in the 4 × 400 meters relay was interviewed by a TVN24 reporter.

– It’s a nice burden. I am happy because I did not expect that I can ever have an Olympic medal at all, and I bring two, so a very nice weight – said the athlete.

– When I won even medals in the world championships with the girls, even though they were the best competitors in the world at the time, I did not think that I would meet them at the Olympics and that I would also be able to win with them – she added.

– A surprise after all, a dream of course, but I still thought unattainable. However, maybe it is really worth dreaming and at least believing a bit – she admitted.
