From Monday, April 3, new, higher rates for travel on the A4 Katowice – Kraków motorway will apply. The company Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska, which manages this section, informed that some drivers may not feel the increases. It all depends on whether they change the payment method after April 3rd.

Changes in rates on A4 from April 3

From April 3. on the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway, all categories of vehicles will be subject to new rates. They will amount to:

– PLN 15 for category 1 (passenger cars) – an increase of PLN 2, – PLN 27 for categories 2 and 3 – an increase of PLN 3 (discount of PLN 19), – PLN 46 for categories 4 and 5 – an increase of PLN 6 , – The rate for motorcyclists will increase from PLN 6 to PLN 7.

At the same time, the motorway manager maintains an incentive for passenger cars and will reward journeys with an application or electronic toll collection. Drivers who will use these options will pay PLN 13 at each of the two collection points. This is PLN 2 less than those who use traditional payments. At the same time, however, it is PLN 3 more than the rate for videotolling and A4Go users before the announced change.

– How much (drivers) pay for a ride is a matter of their individual decision and openness to changing habits. Installing the application on your phone or ordering an A4Go device takes just a few minutes, followed by real savings. New users of videotolling or A4Go, who use passenger cars, will not feel the change in the amount of fees at all, because thanks to the discount, it will not apply to them – says Rafał Czechowski, spokesman for SAM SA.

Automation of toll plazas

Videotolling gives many possibilities to choose the application operator – at the moment Autopay, SkyCash, IKO, mPay are recognized on the A4 concession, and other providers are planned. The applications are also linked to ORLEN Flota cards, online banking, solutions such as Yanosik, and they also enable travel on state highways. In turn, A4Go is a solution often chosen by fleet owners or entrepreneurs, e.g. due to the possibility of recharging the on-board device with impulses “in reserve”.

The motorway management company reports that the partial automation of toll plazas has clearly increased their capacity. Due to the growing interest in this form of toll payment, the administrator of the A4 concession section changed the traffic organization at the toll gates, allocating three lanes for drivers using automatic payments, and even four lanes for each direction in Mysłowice and Balice in situations of heavy traffic. Truck drivers who choose automatic methods, like passenger car drivers before, have gained a separate gate.
