Tornado near Palermo. Luxury yacht sinks

A yacht carrying 22 people sank off the coast of Palermo in Sicily, Italy, where a tornado struck. One body was found, and the search for six missing people is ongoing. So far, 15 people have been rescued, including a child.

The search for six people missing after a yacht sank in a tornado and heavy seas off Palermo is underway. Authorities have found one body.

Fifteen people were rescued by Italian Coast Guard crews, the ANSA news agency reported this morning. Among those rescued was a one-year-old child who was taken to hospital.

The 56-metre luxury yacht was mainly occupied by British citizens, as well as people from New Zealand, Sri Lanka, France, the USA, Canada and Ireland.

Divers from the rescue teams have already reached the vessel, lying at a depth of 49 meters. It is not ruled out that the missing were below deck when the yacht sank and did not have time to save themselves.
