A 36-year-old cyclist who was hit by a 77-year-old driver of a passenger car a few days ago at a bike ride in Toruń has died. The woman died in hospital as a result of her injuries.
The accident occurred on Wednesday (28 August) at around 7 p.m. in the centre of Toruń, at Pokoju Toruńskiego Square. A 36-year-old cyclist was hit at a bicycle crossing by a 77-year-old driver who, according to police findings, failed to give her the right of way.
– A 77-year-old driver of a Toyota passenger car, when leaving a roundabout, failed to give way to a 36-year-old cyclist who was riding on a designated bicycle path – informed Junior Sergeant Sebastian Pypczyński from the City Police Headquarters in Toruń.
The 36-year-old died in hospital
The woman was taken to hospital with very serious injuries. She died on Tuesday (September 3).
– The woman was unconscious. She was transported to hospital, where she died last Tuesday – confirmed the police officer.
The driver of the car was sober. However, now the qualification of the act he committed will change to causing an accident with a fatal outcome.
