Police officers from Toruń (Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship) have taken part in the “Safe Pedestrian” campaign in recent days. They were assisted by a drone. The action brought disgraceful results – 430 interventions and 250 fines. In total, the police issued fines for tens of thousands of zlotys.

The aim of the action, conducted from 31 January to 12 February, was to reduce the number of accidents and collisions involving unprotected road users. The police paid special attention to the dangerous behavior of drivers and pedestrians.

A drone was used in the activities. As explained by Mariusz Sidorkiewicz, a TVN24 reporter, this device is increasingly used by police officers, especially those from the traffic police. From a bird’s eye view, you can see all traffic violations at a glance. By the way, such a recording is great evidence in case the driver does not want to accept the ticket and questions his offence.

Most of the tickets for the driver, pedestrians not without fault

During the action, the policemen intervened almost 430 times, issuing nearly 250 fines. These 250 tickets – as the TVN24 reporter said – were issued mainly to drivers for running a red light or crossing a pedestrian crossing too fast, which poses a very high risk if a pedestrian appears on it.

Among the sins of drivers there are also such as overtaking or overtaking just before the lanes. Sidorkiewicz added that pedestrians, although in the minority, are also not without fault. The police caught them mainly running or coming through the crossing on or off the red light.

– The quality of this recording is very good, which makes it easy for us to see traffic offenses – said in an interview with TVN24 junior aspirant Dominika Bocian from the Municipal Police Headquarters in Toruń.
