There is a shortage of employees in the hotel industry and in servicing tourists in the Tatra Mountains – emphasizes Karol Wagner from the Tatra Chamber of Commerce. He adds that using employees from Ukraine or Belarus is not enough anymore.

Many hotels and guesthouses from Podhale have job offers. The shortage of employees is also visible, for example, in Krupówki in Zakopane, where restaurants and shops are also looking for employees.

Shortage of employees in the hotel industry

As assessed by Wagner, in the past summer season hoteliers and entrepreneurs from the Tatra Mountains faced a shortage of employees, although at that time there were seasonal workers who have now returned to their current activities.

– Demand for work in the hotel industry is still huge under the Tatras, both in the cleaning sector and front staff serving guests. Entrepreneurs willingly employ workers from Ukraine or Belarus and due to their experience and commitment they are often promoted to higher positions, on the so-called front, said Wagner

Employees from other countries

He also emphasized that the advantages of Ukrainians and Belarusians include the lack of a language barrier, commitment to work and, often, good education.

At the same time, he added that the use of employees from these fields of study is starting to be lacking.

– We use employees from further regions, from Asia – Indians, Indonesians, Thais, but here there is a language and cultural barrier. These are employees most often employed in departments that do not communicate with guests, mainly in the back of the kitchen and cleaning – he explained.
