Monaco, Ostia located near Rome and Ploce in Croatia were listed by the British daily “The Telegraph” on the list of seaside locations that should be avoided. For balance, towns have also been proposed that tourists can enjoy.
Although many people associate Monaco with beauty and splendor, it did not make a good impression on the author of travel books, Anthony Peregrine.
– It's a self-sufficient bubble of extravagance, luxury and a lot of policemen. The scenery is amazing – mountains directly behind, the Mediterranean Sea in front. However, the spectacle is based on wealth, and ordinary eaters have at most barely tolerable parts of Neverland – this is how an expert described Monaco in “The Telegraph”.

“I never dared to go back there”
Ostia, an ancient port city near Rome, cannot count on praise either. Although this is probably where Romans go when they want to relax by the sea, Tim Jepson advises against the beaches of Ostia.
– Even for someone who still had little comparison when it came to beaches, it was clear that while the sand looked more or less okay, the water was really something to avoid. Rows of modern apartment blocks as a backdrop, with barely a hint of greenery, didn't help. Perhaps the water is better now: I never dared to go back there, writes Jepson, who visited Ostia in his youth.
