Tragic news. Andrzej Kra¶nicki, the legend of Polish sport, is dead

“It is with great regret that we inform you that Andrzej Kraśnicki, President of the Association, died on January 10, 2025. Handball In Poland in the years 2006–2021,” we read in a statement on the association's website. The president of ZPRP, Sławomir Szmal, expresses his condolences to the family and relatives of the deceased.

Andrzej Kraśnicki has died. He was 75 years old

Kraśnicki was the president of the Polish Olympic Committee in 2010-2023. At the same time, from 2006 to 2021, he was also the president of the Handball Association in Poland. During this time, the Poles won the world championship medal three times – in 2007, 2009 and 2015, and also played at the Olympic Games twice – in Beijing and Rio de Janeiro.

After resigning from the position of president of the Polish Handball Association, he became its honorary president. After his term in the Polish Olympic Committee expired, he did not run for re-election, and was succeeded by Radosław Piesiewicz.

Kraśnicki was a player himself – he represented Poland in the junior and junior teams frame in handball. He was also a coach of this discipline. Later he worked as a ski instructor and lifeguard, and was the president of the Posnania i Sports Club Polish Confederation Sportsin the years 2002-2005.

“Kraśnicki is also a former member of the Executive Committee of the Association of European Olympic Committees, one of the European representatives in the Executive Council of the World Association of National Olympic Committees, and a member of the Foundation Council of the World Anti-Doping Agency. For his achievements, he was awarded, among others, the Grand Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta” – reminds ZPRP.
